Royal London: Buckingham Palace and Pall Mall
London - St. James
Walk - About 2 hours
This walk will take us through the quarters associated with British royalty: St. James park, Henry VIII’s old hunting grounds; Buckingham Palace, the ruling family’s residence; as well as St. James Palace, the previous royal residence, and the mansions in the Mall such as Lancaster House, Clarence House and Marlborough House. All of these places will allow us to discover the personalities that built the image of British Royalty, and give us occasion to assess the evolution of architecture in England. Thus we will make a point to see the Queen’s Chapel, the first Neo-Classical structure built in England, and the model for the English Neo-Classic style. We will also visit Pall Mall, the famous avenue known for being the home to various gentlemen's clubs. We will learn about these venerable institutions that still play a considerable role in today’s British society.
